Heritage Paint Colours: Getting Your Federation Home Right
Authentic Federation, Victorian, and Edwardian colour palettes with modern Dulux equivalents.
Heritage colours aren't guesses. The Federation, Victorian, and Edwardian eras each had defined palettes. Here's how to match authentically.
Federation (1890-1915)
Warm cream main walls. Deep red, Indian red, or bottle green trim. Dulux equivalents: Whisper White main, Red Box or Huntress trim.
Victorian (1837-1901)
Deeper colours, more contrast. Dark greens, burgundies, deep creams. More willing to use multiple trim colours.
Edwardian (1901-1920)
Lighter, more optimistic. Buffs, creams, soft greens. Transition from Victorian darkness to Art Deco brightness.
